Maryland Public Television is a leader in the production of broadcast programming for public television. MPT's local/regional television credits include public affairs, original performance, entertainment and documentary programs for the citizens of Maryland.

Beyond broadcast, MPT creates instructional videos, develops training and builds Internet sites that serve tens of thousands of students, teachers and child-care providers annually. MPT outreach activities, especially relating to arts, culture and history, take place in all areas of the state to further fulfill MPT's mission to engage, enlighten and entertain.

Our state of the art television facility is located in Owings Mills, MD. The campus-like setting provides plenty of free parking and is an easy commute from any location in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area.

Client Services Representative

We have an immediate opening for a Client Services Representative position which will support the Development Department through the execution and coordination of client fulfillment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education High School required Bachelor's degree preferred and three years of administrative experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Products, Adobe Photo Shop, ProTrack, Media Audit, Scarborough.

The position will create, maintain and disseminate reports and documents while adhering to MPT, State and Foundation recordkeeping protocols and requirements. This position will be responsible for the fulfillment of MPT Depvelopment's trade and sponsorship contracts with vendors, donors and community partners. Logs contract data, production and timely scheduling of sponsor's on-air credit, tracking activity and balance for each community, trade or Grant partner. Implement promotional plans for Development events and MPT's programs. Track invoices, prepare purchase orders, maintain an update inventory and reconcile monthly statements.

Senior Maintenance Engineer - Production & Maintenance

Purpose of Position: Perform all necessary repairs and maintenance functions to ensure successful operation of broadcast equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in electronics/ electrical engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years maintenance experience in broadcast and/or post production. Experience should include a wide variety of television equipment such as digital video and audio non-linear editing systems, digital VTR's, servers, IRD's, encoders/decoders, test equipment- scopes and waveform monitors, routers, ENG systems and remote trucks.
  • Knowledge of software platforms i.e. Windows, Linux, Unix as it relates to servers and automation systems desirable.
  • Familiarity with current compression systems like MPEG, Dolby and others desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of PC based networking desirable.

Duties:

  • Repair and maintain digital Beta tape machines, video servers, graphics/CG and non-linear editing systems, studio and field cameras, digital production video switchers, router and control systems, and audio production systems and miscellaneous terminal gear as it relates to Master Control and Production systems.
  • Work with Engineering, Master Control and Production personnel to ensure systems operate at peak efficiency. Troubleshoot systems as needed.
  • Maintain documentation for technical systems.
  • Install, test and evaluate television broadcast equipment and systems.
  • Act as engineering support on remotes and studio productions.
  • Provide support on in-house microwave and satellite feeds.
  • Drive and operate ENG microwave/SAT truck for remote productions: valid Maryland Driver's License must be obtained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Web Developer

  • Build, maintain and update MPT's Thinkport website and all other relevant education websites through a variety of web tools and languages.
  • Develop education-appropriate content for Thinkport home page and maintain editorial calendar.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems on websites. Work with MPT staff and contractors to troubleshoot problems as they relate to servers supporting these websites.
  • Use photo imaging software to crop images and create graphics.
  • Place flash, videos and other interactives onto website.
  • Build online courses using Moodle or other content management systems as directed.
  • Send e-newsletters on a regular basis through list serve.
  • Must maintain website metrics.
  • Answer questions from the public in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work with external partners and members of the public to resolve technical issues.
  • Research the latest trends in instructional and web development technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of html, Adobe Creative Suite and content management systems.
  • General knowledge of cfm, php and databases.
  • Software: Photoshop, illustrator, homesite, Premiere, Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Video Capture and Edit software.

We require a bachelor's degree and 3 years web development experience that includes website development, content development and technical troubleshooting. Applicants may substitute qualifying experience on a year for year basis for the required bachelor's degree.

Writer – MotorWeek - Contractual position, no benefits

$26,000 per year

This position provides script writing for segments on MotorWeek – a nationally televised automotive magazine. Extensive research on automotive related topics is conducted in support of the weekly broadcast production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field
  • One-year writing experience tv or radio broadcast or publications such as newspapers and magazines.
  • Knowledge of various aspects of the automotive industry such as manufacturing, equipment and similar items.
  • Previous writing experience in broadcast/television is strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Duties:

  • Conduct research using internet, publications and manufacturers information, on automotive related topics.
  • Write show and scripts for use in segments on weekly program.
  • Edit copy to conform to program style.
  • Participate in developing ideas for segments.
  • Log footage for use in segments.
  • Travel to a variety of locations in support of show production.

Education Department - Part time/Contractual

The Education Department at Maryland Public Television is recruiting interested applicants to meet a variety of needs that may occur over the next year. These positions will be filled as needed and are contingent on available funding. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the following positions:

Instructional Content Developers: (Early Childhood and K-12): Responsible for designing and developing curricula that is aligned with specific state and/or national standards. The developer will work with MPT personnel to ensure that content is developmentally appropriate, of high-quality, and meets the specific objective.

Qualifications: Candidates will have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field and a minimum of two years teaching and/or curriculum development experience. Content areas of need include, but are not limited to: Math, Science, English/Language Arts, Technology, STEM, Social Studies.

Online Course Writers (Early Childhood and K-12): (Early Childhood and K-12): Responsible for working with content experts to develop thematic units, lesson plans, scripts, and other teacher or family resource materials.

Qualifications: Candidates will have at least a Bachelor's Degree in English or other related field and a minimum of two years writing experience. Content areas of need include, but are not limited to: Math, Science, English/Language Arts, Technology, STEM, Social Studies.

Online Course Facilitators (Early Childhood and K-12): Responsible for facilitating online courses offered through MPT. Facilitators will support course participants through online course tools, asynchronous discussions, and specific strategies for online facilitation. They will also develop an understanding of key implementation issues such as access, Universal Design for Learning and evaluation.

Qualifications: Candidates will have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field and a minimum of two years teaching and/or curriculum development experience. Online course facilitation experience desired. Content areas of need include, but are not limited to: Math, Science, English/Language Arts, Technology, STEM, Social Studies.

Trainers (Early Childhood and K-12): Responsible for coordinating and conducting training sessions on a variety of MPT products and programs. The trainer will work with the Professional Development Coordinator to ensure materials and logistical needs are met, schedule and conduct training, and work with participants to gather feedback. Applicants must be able to travel throughout the state to conduct half and full-day training sessions.

Qualifications: Candidates will have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field and a minimum of two years teaching, training, and/or professional development experience. Candidates must have the ability to use presentation tools, conduct face-to-face and/or online training sessions, and modify training as needed to meet the needs of the audience.
